APARENT-CHILD GUIDE TO PRACTICING SPANISH AT HOME

Greetings Parents:

Our aim in every class is to make learning Spanish exciting and fun for your child! To achieve this, we use Spanish-speaking puppets, catchy songs, fun chants, engaging games, and role-play activities. This February, your child will learn some of the following vocabulary:

  • Valentine's Day Compliments

  • Exercises

  • Storytime

  • Jobs/Careers: (mail carrier, dentist, firefighter, carpenter, teacher, cashier)

  • Puppet Show

  • Happy Birthday: (When is your birthday?)

  • Months of the Year

  • Numbers 41-50

The following will make it easy to practice Spanish with your child,
no matter your level of spanish :-)

Compliments

Check out these super sweet compliments we've got in store for February! Simply read the pronunciation guides on each picture as if you're speaking English, and voila! You'll be a Spanish pronunciation pro. Share these feel-good compliments with each other in February and beyond! And hey, if you need a little audio backup, we've got you covered.

Exercises

In February, we’ll incorporate physical activity into our learning by teaching several exercises in Spanish. This will be turned into a game where we will freeze our bodies when the teacher or a student shouts out the word "alto" which means "stop." It will be a fun challenge to see who can freeze like a statue the fastest! Play the audio file at home and get ready for you and your kids to have some fun exercising and freezing your body based on the cues given.

Jobs/Careers

We’ll be exploring six different careers in Spanish, including dentist, mail carrier, fire fighter, cashier, and carpenter. You can practice them at home by pointing to the pictures and modeling for your child how to say the words. Then take turns acting out the jobs and guessing them! For extra help in pronouncing the words, click on the audio file below:

Numbers 41-50

In February, let's get our numbers game on with 41-50, especially for our older kiddos who have already mastered counting to 50 in English. Ready, set, press play on the audio file below while tracing the numbers on the handout to the right. To help you with the pronunciation, refer to the hand out to the left. And if your little one is up for it, let's make counting from 41-50 a daily routine!

Months of the Year

If your child is learning the months of the year in English, they are ready to learn them in Spanish too, and you can learn along with them! Our audio file will teach them for you, so play it and point to the flashcards as you sing each month. To ensure pronunciation is correct, refer to the guide on each flashcard for extra support.
