 DECEMBER week 1: EASY breezy Review 

Hey there, teachers!
Get ready to teach fun, easy review activities to reinforce Spanish from the digital lesson. No Spanish? No problem! You and your students will pick up new words quickly. Try our the review activities below and let the adventure begin!

1. Compliments: (10 minutes)

Looking for a fun way to energize your classroom? Snag the Compliment Poster on the right and watch your space light up with positivity! Just hit play on the audio file, point to the compliments, and let the song do the teaching for you—it’s that easy! Afterward, I like to ask each student to pick a compliment they’d like to hear from me and the class. Then, we sing it to them twice with a catchy rhythm. For example: "¡Bravo, Charlie, bravo, Charlie!" or "¡Qué chulo, Jasmine, qué chulo, Jasmine!" The smiles, laughter, and even a few blushes will brighten everyone’s day! When I ask how it makes them feel, they always beam and say, “Really good!”

Make a Spanish "bonus jar." Every time a student pays another a compliment, add a marble or a cotton ball to the jar. When the jar is full, celebrate their good behavior combined with speaking Spanish by throwing a classroom party with a movie and popcorn or extra outdoor time, or let your students suggest a reward.  Let's make speaking Spanish and spreading kindness a winning combo!​

 2. Christmas Tree vocabulary: (15 minutes)

Activity prep:

Before you begin this activity, you'll need to download the tree and ornament visuals . Laminate them if you can for some added durability!
In just 15 minutes you and your students can prepare to decorate a Christmas tree in your second language by learning some key vocabulary!  (the star, the lights, and the ornaments). See the vocabulary poster below.

Begin by telling your students you would love their help to decorate a tree for Christmas! Then, one by one, show them the decorations and have the students  raise their hands to tell the class what the decorations are in English. Next, tell the kids that you will listen to an audio file together to learn how to say the decorations in Spanish. As you play the audio file, hold up the decorations for your class to see and repeat the names together in Spanish.  The audio file will even teacher you new language skills like "What is this?" and "What are these?" in Spanish. But if that's too much, feel free to hit pause and take it at your own pace. 

 ¡Vámonos! (Let's go!)

When you're ready to carry out this activity, hit "play" on the audio file and check out the handy cheat sheet below for the English and Spanish translations along with the pronunciation for each word. Just read the words like you normally would in English, and you'll be sounding like a local in no time!

  3. decorating a christmas Tree: (15 MINUTES)

Now it's time to decorate the Christmas tree! I'm here to help you as always. Simply hit play on the audio file, and let's learn two easy phrases that will make it easy for you to direct your students in Spanish to decorate the tree.  For older students, challenge them to take the lead and direct their classmates like a pro! You may have to prompt them to use the Spanish phrases. Don't forget to shower your hardworking elves with compliments in Spanish using those amazing phrases you polished up in Easy Review Activity #1. They deserve it!

4. Coloring Sheet: (time: 5-10 minutes)

Bring the holiday spirit into your classroom with a fun and creative way to practice Christmas tree vocabulary! Your students will love coloring the festive picture below while reviewing words like estrella (star), luces (lights), and adornos (ornaments). Print as many copies as you need and let their imaginations shine as they decorate their trees with vibrant colors. Once finished, display their masterpieces for a classroom full of holiday cheer. It’s a joyful, hands-on activity that makes learning memorable—enjoy the festive fun!
