Parent Newsletter October week 3

Now it's your turn to shine! Follow up the digital lesson
by teaching your students the following activities:

october week 3: EASY breezy Review

Get ready for some fun review activities to reinforce the Spanish vocab from the digital lesson! No Spanish? No problem! You can easily lead these activities, and you’ll be surprised how fast you and your students pick up new words. Dive in and enjoy teaching Spanish! Try one, two or all three activities this week—let the language adventure begin!

 1. Fun Family Tree Activity! 🌳 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦: (10 minutes)

1. Download and print the family tree (below) for each student. It’s a fantastic visual tool to help them connect the vocabulary to the actual family members!

2. Introduce the family members in Spanish: Start by pointing to each family member on the tree (mom, dad, brother, sister,
etc.) and teach the Spanish words for each. Use the Family Pronunciation Table below as a guide.

Make it fun by encouraging your students to repeat the words with enthusiasm! Try saying the words in a funny voice or with actions—like giving a big hug when you say “madre”!

3. Play the audio file "Family Vocabulary Song" below and sing along as a class! It’s a catchy way for students to remember
the new words and feel confident saying them.

4. Reinforce through daily practice: Use the family tree picture throughout the week. You can start each class by quickly
reviewing a couple of family members, turning it into a fun quiz or memory challenge.

5. Make it interactive: Let students take turns pointing to the family members on the tree and saying their names in Spanish.
You’ll see their confidence grow as they begin to master the vocabulary!

By the end of the week, your students will be able to proudly identify and say the names of family members in Spanish, and they’ll have a blast learning with this engaging and hands-on activity! 🎉

A Grammar Note: Understanding "the" in Spanish

In Spanish, there are four words for "the". I am going to teach you two of them here.
1. "el": This means "the" and is used for **masculine singular nouns**. For example:  the dad = el padre
2. "la": This also means "the" but is used for **feminine singular nouns**. For example:  the mom = la madre

So remember:
- Use "el" for masculine nouns (like "
the dad' = el padre)
- Use "la" for feminine nouns (like "the mom" = la madre)

 2. Fun Activity: Let's Go Trick-or-Treating!** 🎃🍬 (15 minutes)

Get ready for a fantastic and interactive Halloween activity where your students will **pretend to go Trick-or-Treating**! Here’s how to make it fun and easy:

What You’ll Need:
Treats: Pick up some fun treats like spider rings or small sticker boxes from the Dollar Store. They usually come in packs of 24 or more, so they’re budget-friendly!
Halloween bags: You can also find Halloween bags at the Dollar Store, or use any plastic bag.

Steps to Carry Out the Activity:
1. Set the Scene: Explain to your students that you’re going to pretend to be at home on Halloween night, hoping for Trick-or-Treaters. They will act as the children coming to your house!

2. Practice the Phrases:
   - Play the audio "Trick-or-Treat" audio file below. It will teach your students how to say "Trick or Treat" in Spanish:
"Dulce o Truco"** (pronounced: "Dool-seh oh Tdoo-koh").
   - Teach them to say "thank you" in Spanish: "gracias" (pronounced: "gdah-see-ahs").
   - Teach them to say "you're welcome" in Spanish: "de nada" (pronounced: "deh nah-dah").

3. Get into Character: Give 2-3 students a Halloween bag each. Tell them they will pretend to walk up to your "house."

4. Create a Door: In your classroom, stand behind a partition or a bookshelf to look like you’re at home. Tape a button, LEGO piece, or a plastic spider to the wall or shelf to represent your doorbell.

5. Ring the Doorbell: When the students with Halloween bags walk up to your door, they should pretend to ring the doorbell. Have the rest of the class sing “ding-dong” to make it more fun!

6. Open the Door: Act excited when you hear the doorbell! Pretend to open the door and greet your Trick-or-Treaters.

7. The Trick-or-Treaters should say "Dulce o Truco" to you. Give each of them a treat to put in their Halloween bags.

8. Express Gratitude: Encourage them to say "gracias" (thank you) after receiving their treats. Respond with "de nada" (you're welcome) to reinforce the phrases.

9. Repeat the Fun: Continue until each student has had a turn to Trick-or-Treat! You can repeat this activity throughout the week.

**Celebrate Their Progress!**
You might need to help your students the first time, but after a couple of rounds, they’ll surprise you with how well they remember the phrases! Celebrate their success and enjoy those proud moments together! 🎉

Have a spooky good time!

 3. an Exciting Number Challenge! 🎉 🎶 (5 minutes)

Transform your morning meeting or those quick 5 minutes before nap time into a fun-filled learning experience! Here’s how to make it super exciting for everyone:

1. Print the Numbers 1-10 poster below.

1. Play the Audio File below: "Numbers 1-10".

2
. Engage Your Students: As the music plays, use a magic wand or a fun pointer to point to numbers 1-10 on the poster. Encourage your students to sing along with enthusiasm—this is their moment to shine!

3. Be the Teacher!: Here’s the fun part: choose a student to be "the teacher" for the activity! Hand them your magic wand or pointer and watch their excitement as they take on this special role. Kids absolutely love pretending to be the teacher and being your helper!

4. Create a Fun Atmosphere: As they sing the numbers, cheer them on! You can even encourage every student to count their fingers as you are singing the song.

5. Celebrate Together: After singing , celebrate their effort! Give high-fives and cheers for everyone’s participation.

This little activity is a fantastic way to make learning numbers in Spanish super fun and engaging, all while fostering a sense of teamwork and excitement in your classroom! 🎈Get ready to rock those numbers!
